[Helpful! Explanatory! This comment was neither of these things.
Grabbing the other controller, he drags it over, and experimentally begins poking every button on it, watching the screen. To his delight, it activates PLAYER 2, and brings both of them to a character select screen.]
Cool! Hey, check it out! This game lets you pick who you fight as!
[ Jude kind of wished that he had time to explain or felt like he could have corrected Luke about the whole process of the matter but results speak for itself he guesses. Luke managed to do something and Jude didn't. ]
How did you do that?
[ Why was he asking Luke this? Either way, Jude's going notice how it says 'PLAYER 2' and which cues him into looking for another controller. ]
Hey, it looks like we might be able to play together.
With the easy, practiced motion of someone who's accustomed to endlessly throwing healing gels at close friends, he underhandedly lobs Jude the Player 2 controller, still smiling. Playing together!!]
Who are you going to choose? I'm definitely going with the super muscly guy. [Super muscly = super strength, it's just math]
[ Ah...truly. Why did he ask Luke this?? But he'll catch the controller once it's thrown his way and situate himself in front of the television and looking over the choices after Luke's made his. ]
I guess I'll go for this guy over here. Maybe he'll be super quick.
[ Cue Jude picking out someone who look more spindly than muscular. Clearly he isn't in the same belief pool as Luke is which is probably for the best. There should only be one Tales Protag like this in a singular spot.
Anyway, after they've both selected their character the next screen pops up that allows them to pick where to go. There are plenty of options and, of course, a 'RANDOM' option. ]
Oh, it looks like there are 'Stages' that we can pick out too. I guess that'll be where we'll be playing our characters.
[ The stage loads up and it looks to be a very stereotypical or "classic" boxing ring—not that they'd know what those would look like. Once the stage loads up, the dramatic music with the narrator counting them down before instructing them to fight. ]
Uh, you just said push the buttons randomly..?
[ not all Tales protags know how to Just Go With It. ]
[Luke seems pretty confident in his strategy. QUANTITY=QUALITY
The narrator, finished the count, announces GO!, and the characters are free! You've never seen so many punches, kicks, and jumps. The super meatbeef fighter is a blazing ball of input commands, launching himself around the stage—but only occasionally landing hits on Jude's character.]
[ Honestly, the flashiness takes Jude by surprise and he doesn't know what to do much than move backwards and jump up?? that's new. He does do a few punches and kicks here and there but they're all mostly poorly timed. For now. Jude does manage to smash his fingers on the controller just right so that his character picks up Luke's character and tosses them onto the other side..!
...of course he forgets all about the game and looks to Luke Very Impressed. ]

So much for group voting.]
This makes it easier, right? Then we don't have to pick, if you're right!

Yeah! How'd you do that?!

I...don't know.
[ MORE BUTTON SMASHING AND...an air kick instead. ]

Luke, meanwhile, has just started pushing one button over and over—which, after ten second of, he points at.]
This is for punch! So...
[after thirty or so kicks]
And kick! Hey, we're getting the hang of this!
no subject
Yeah, it looks like we are.
[ there's more conscious button pushing from jude this time around and he'll do a move that's somewhat close to a move of his. ]
This looks like a sweep kick..!

Found the jump!

[ he repeats himself just to make sure ]
Oh! How did you do that?

[in his enthusiasm, he reaches over and presses it several times helpfully for Jude, his character executing several jumps as well.
Pulling back, he starts emulating Jude's sweep kick, zipping across the stage--
--and popping Jude's player one in the leg.]
Whoops! Sorry! Peace! Ceasefire!
