[ Sorry, but Jude trusts far too easily. And when Hiro tells him that he has no experience with Spirits, then it fits in what he can assume is the norm for most other people here. ]
Well, spirits are how people in my world have lighting and heat up stoves—we use them to perform artes, exchanging mana that’s produced for the arte. A spyrix forces spirits to use their mana to perform artes without replenishing the mana used…
[ Jude's pretty sure Hiro might know where he's going with this but elaborates regardless: ]
I don't know...I kind of want some proof of what they're doing before I believe what they're saying. [It happens when you're too curious but also have been screwed over a lot.
Jude starts to explain though and for a moment Hiro's face scrunches up in thought. That's definitely different than anything he was expecting. Maybe he was expecting like spooky ghosts of the spirit of Christmas Past or whatever, but spirits that power technology and basic amenities...he understands mana on a base level, but that's all fictional.
Isn't it? That opens up so many possibilities.]
...that's pretty bad, dude. Isn't there another way to get mana from the spirits without draining them that way? [Good in theory, bad in practice.]
How would you think of them showing proof, though? This whole place is proof that they certainly have some kind of power.
[ Hiro should take a look at Jude's track record of people betraying him and then him nearly immediately turning around to forgive/trust them again. smh... Still, Jude smiles tightly and gives his head a shake. He's glad that Hiro was concerned about the spirits. ]
That's what I want to figure out. [ He takes a look back at the small electronics. ] I believe the technology is there—I just have to find a way to make it work.
[ Well, maybe not just Jude but that's the way that his brain works. ]
I don't know. Giving us something else that's smaller as proof they can actually make our wishes come true? If they can't give us something like, say, a pack of gummy bears then I don't know if I can trust them with something bigger.
[Thanks for being cynical, Hiro. But at the same time that's a whole other problem because what??]
If there's technology to go one way, there's always tech you can create to do the opposite. Do you know how to build things? [Is Jude the True Protag who has to solve everything?]
Have you thought about asking for something like that?
[ SEEMS STRAIGHT FORWARD. ]
And that's my thinking as well. I've also seen examples of it being possible to extract the mana that's needed but without hurting the spirits. [ IE. his father's invention but different. There could be something there, though. The determination in his face fades as Hiro asks him if he could build it and, well, Jude's a punchy doctor and should honestly have some limits. ] But, no, I don't know how to build them myself.
[ He rubs the back of his neck a bit sullen. ]
The most I could do is provide the theories and fundamentals that could be used for a test product.
Sort of. But it's still pretty early? [AHA...so no. But he really should.]
Don't underestimate how important theories are, dude. Anybody can learn to build but if you don't know what you're trying to build than what's the point? And I think that's pretty cool anyway...I built a lot of stuff for my friends, but they were based on their own ideas and research.
Thanks, and yeah, without ideas people could just build whatever they wanted. [ Isn't that the case for just about everything ever. ] However, I'd say that being someone who can come up with ideas and then carry them out is certainly carries more weight in a serious discussion.
[ Since, you know, actually being able to put his money where his mouth is. ]
What kind of things have you built for your friends?
Maybe that's true. [More than true, but now he just wants to pick Jude's brain a little. On the other hand, he's asking him a question and Hiro finds himself grinning a little even while fiddling with the interior of the game console.]
Well...I kinda built our gear? We use it to protect our city and stuff. And I made Baymax's flightsuit so he could be airborne. It didn't take that long.
WK0: nerds
Supposedly?

As you can expect, it eventually kills them.
god bless this gif.

Gear? Baymax?
[ Sorry you might have lost him here. ]
I think you might want to start from the beginning.

Ever hear of a superhero? [Maybe that's not a thing in other worlds.]

Uh, not really.
